Renaming the hosts file worked for me! Running windows 7, itunes Close itunes. Open itunes. Running Windows 7 bit, iTunes I spent 4 hours trying to figure this thing out. The error still exist. According to Apple, it also uses verisign to authenticate packages. As suggested above try moving your host file out of the etc folder and put it somewhere like your desktop cut and paste it. Hmm, thanks for sauricks ip. Huge help. You need to save it to your desktop then move it back to the etc folder make sure you choose replace. Make sure there is no extension on the file. Sauricks will sign it off typically unless you have the latest itunes, see below.

You need to put your idevice in DFU Mode and your idevice must be contected to your computer. This does not work, i have tried to do this going back from Version 4.
