The wall effectively became 10 feet higher and the larger manual scoreboard with electric lights for balls, strikes, and outs was installed. Some 6, new grandstand seats were added and another 2, box seats, along with another several thousand in the right-field pavilion and spread throughout the park, bringing the capacity to 37, The distances to the fences also changed. Clad in a fresh new coat of green paint, Fenway definitely had a new and fresh look, one which in large part still greets visitors today.
Several thousand of the original wooden slatted seats still remain, the blue seats in the Fenway of today. Electric lighting for night games was added in time for the June 13, game. In , the center-field flagpole behind which balls sometimes went was removed from the field of play. After the World Series in which Fred Lynn slammed hard into the wall, the lower part of the outfield walls were covered with padding. The following year an electronic message board was added above the center-field bleachers; this has been replaced and upgraded a couple of times.
The first private suites were added in and luxury seating directly behind home plate was added in , originally as a fully glassed-in area. The Red Sox came to an agreement with the City of Boston to close a portion of Yawkey Way one of the streets outside the park, originally Jersey Street , a little more than two hours before games and during games, allowing patrons more room to gather and move about.
Even not counting the current players also in attendance, it is believed to be the largest assemblage of former major leaguers at one time. Numerous books and audiovisual productions honored the anniversary as did a number of television documentaries and countless articles on the park.

The garages depicted however, do still exist, perhaps as one of the few institutions around the ballpark that has not changed. Despite these changes to the surroundings of Fenway, there has been little change to the ballpark's role as a civic center of entertainment. Despite elimination of churches and the introduction of new schools, Fenway still remains to be a site of unity in the Boston community.
This observation highlights the possibility that civic centers are resilient against changes in its role once solidified and established, even when its surroundings are changing drastically and rapidly.
This is a point not mentioned by Arendt and Sennet in "The Public Realm," but one that is very interesting and important to think about in the realm of Fenway Park as a civic center. Perhaps most striking about the direct surroundings around the ballpark is the bustling Massachusetts Turnpike directly adjacent to Fenway.
To get from the Kenmore T station to the park, one would cross a bridge above the turnpike as seen in the corresponding video. Nothing compares to seeing a baseball game at Fenway, the atmosphere and camaraderie are like no other. Thinking about the legends that have played at this ballpark brings a sense of nostalgia that we Bostonians are lucky to feel.
There are so many unique things about Fenway. Boston is full of history, and the same goes for our historic ballpark. Fenway Park was built in , and it is the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in Its quirks, asymmetry, and intimate feel are what make it unique.
Seats were added along the top of the wall in that provide a distinct view of the ballpark. They grow their own fruits and vegetables at Fenway. The garden is located on the third-base side of the EMC level.
